Modifications for iTunes 2.0.4 for Mac OS 9

Keep in mind that these procedures modify the iTunes application, so you should ALWAYS work on a backup copy, just in case. I am NOT responsible for any damage you do to yourself or your computer.

PICT Resource edits

This part is pretty easy, all you need is ResEdit and iTunes, and a picture editor. Pictures and masks used by iTunes for most things are stored in the iTunes application's resource fork. Simply drag iTunes onto ResEdit, and start changing pictures. (use copy and paste). Play around! have fun!

Data Fork Modification

This part pretty much deals with colors in iTunes. You can change some text colors, the colors of the playlist, and a few other things. This is more advanced editing than the previous section, and is not to be attempted by the weak minded!

The idea here is as follows: you will use an editor to edit the DataFork of the iTunes application. You should either download and install Forker, which allows ResEdit to do this, or get something else like HexEdit. Your choice. The table below lists the Hex offsets that you need to look at to find various colors. Now, the colors listed in the table below are 8bit versions of 16bit hexadecimal color codes used in iTunes. That is to say, if the table says "ABCDEF", then the color in iTunes is "ABABCDCDEFEF". All you have to do is to find the hex offset, choose a replacement color, and plug your new color in. 8bit hex color codes can be obtained using the Mac OS 9 Color Picker.
